Hi All:
We’ll have a fun afternoon Wed. and sort a lot of books!
Please arrive no later than 2:00. I’ll be in the room from 1:00 setting up so come early if you want. We’ll go until we’re done, I’m hoping by 5:00ish.
Where: Garden Theater, 1165 Lincoln Ave., Ste. 310 (elevator is in the middle of the building between Elegant Nails and sushi place; take to third floor, turn left). Parking is usually easier in the back.
Some of the book boxes are in pretty bad shape, so if you have some medium-sized boxes with lids or that close so other books can be stacked on top, please bring them. Bankers boxes are the perfect size and they have hand holds, but they need to have lids.
Here are the 3 kinds of jobs we’ll need done so think about what would work best for you:
1) Book sorter. You’ll be sitting at a table sorting the boxes of books into the 5 main categories. If you’d like to do this and haven’t done it before, please review the book-sorting guidelines in the attached document.
2) Sticker and book mark inserter. You’ll be sitting at a table applying Books For Treats stickers to the board books and inserting bookmarks in the others. You’ll then pack the books into grade-specific boxes.
3) Book runner. You’ll be supplying boxes of books to the sorters, running the sorted books to the sticker/bookmark inserters, and then stacking the bookmarked boxes in the appropriate grade level box storage areas. You need to be able to lift a 20-pound box of books safely (lift with your legs!).
Of course, you can change tasks if you grow tired of one.
Our sorting space is a tad small, so we’ll be taking over the hallway outside our space. We have 14 chairs, so no need to bring your own.
If you have a folding table (6′ or card table), we could use a few extras. (Put your name on the table so the right one will be returned to you.)
Wear comfy clothes and preferably closed-toe shoes as we don’t want anyone’s toes hurt by book boxes.
